Three Tiger cross country runners and one Columbian runner received 3A/2A/1A Special District 1 All-League awards.
Clatskanie Tiger Adam Siltala was named to the first team all-league.
Siltala was also named second team all-state.
Shawn Murray and Lynn Siltala of Clatskanie were named second team all-league.
Hayley Strenke of Rainier was named to second team all-league.
Clatskanie Middle School (CMS) wrestlers kicked off their season Wednesday, Nov. 16, with a match in Seaside.
Teams from Banks, Tillamook, and Ilwaco, along with Seaside and Clatskanie, competed in the tournament.
Winning all their matches with two pins each were Garrett Lefebvre, Isaiah Vazquez and Jonathan Adkinson.
“Everyone wrestled well and should be happy with what they did,” said middle school coach Perry Smith.
Others adding wins for the team included Allen Skirvin, Bailey Makinson and Avery Davis.
“We have a young team this year. The first meet was an eye-opener for many of them,” added Coach Smith. “Everyday the team is improving and we look forward to seeing that improvement in the meets to follow.”
CMS wrestling hosts a meet in the CMHS lower gym on Tuesday, Nov. 29, beginning at 4 p.m.
The Rainier Columbian football team continued its march towards a repeat state championship title with the defeat of the Lakeview Honkers, 56-17, in a quarterfinal game Saturday, Nov. 19.
Lakeview’s defense forced Rainier to go to the air where the Columbian’s compiled 193 yards passing, while gaining 155 yards on the ground.
Rainier quarterback Brad Tripp completed eight of 11 passes including three touchdown passes to tight end Kevyn Brower.
“We knew they were good on defense,” said Columbian head coach Thor Ware. “We had to mix up our play calling, and Brad did a great job for us.”
Two of Tripp’s touchdown passes came on fourth downs, a five-yard toss to Brower with 17 seconds left in the first half and a 52 yarder on a fourth and seven near midfield.
Brower grabbed a 39-yard pass for his third touchdown.
Ethan McGlone ran for 85 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns. His longest run was nine yards.
Parker Dean added eight carries for 32 yards and a touchdown.
The 56-17 win moves Rainier on to a semifinal game against Dayton on Saturday, Nov. 26.
Rainier defeated Dayton in last year’s semifinal to move on to the championship game.
Kick-off for Saturday’s game is set for 11 a.m. at Hillsboro Stadium.
