The Clatskanie High School wrestlers travelled to Seaside on Jan. 11-13 for the Pac-Rim tournament, where 182-pound David Adkinson and 160-pound Christ Puckett each earned second place in their weight classes.
Adam MacMillan, 170 pounds, placed sixth and Cristobol Rojas, 138 pounds, placed seventh.
145-pound Lynn Siltala lost two matches in the main tournament, but came back to win two in the girls’ bracket.
On Saturday, Jan. 26, Lynn wrestled in a state girls wrestling state qualifier. She took first place winning each of her matches by fall.
The victories qualified her to wrestle in the girls state wrestling finals at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland on Feb. 23.
Coach Phil White stated that Siltala is one of three girls ever to qualify for state from Clatskanie.

Rainier wrestlers scored 186 points, 39 points ahead of second place Toledo/Winlock/Onalaska, at the 19-team Ilwaco Beach Brawl wrestling tournament held on Saturday, Jan. 26, in Ilwaco.
Individual champions for the Columbians were Justice Larson (113 pounds), Sean Shipley (152), and Garrett Dees (195).
Finishing in second place in the 16-man brackets were Emmett Earlywine (106), Tyson Lorentson (170), Evan Gleaves (220) and Jesse Hutchins (285).
Based on the tournament’s format, third-place finishers tied in each weight bracket. Third-place finishers for Rainier included Trevor Lefebvre (120), Dorian Graff (182), Charlie Vestal (182) and Jason Larson (220). Jake Helton (160) finished in fifth place.
Bringing their season record to 16-4, the members of the Rainier High School (RHS) girls’ basketball team defeated Warrenton 50-35 on Tuesday, Jan. 22, and De La Salle 45-28 on Saturday, Jan. 26.
Against Warrenton on Rainier’s home court, Kaylea Knox led the Columbians in scoring with 17 points. She had five rebounds. Jaden Thurston contributed 15 points, six assists and four steals. Kylee Crape had 13 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.
“We played pretty consistent in all the quarters, scoring 11, 12, 12 and 15 points.” stated Coach Doug Knox. “We responded well after losing to them in Warrenton and I was pleased overall with our effort.” Coach Knox said.
“It was good to see the balanced scoring with Kaylea, Jaden and Kylee,” he noted.
The Lady Columbians traveled to Portland on Saturday, Jan. 26, to play De La Salle.
With 17 points, Thurston led the scoring. Crape had nine points and 10 rebounds. Knox made eight points, six assists and six rebounds.
“Again we were pretty consistent in scoring except in the third quarter when it was six to six.” said Coach Knox, “We scored 15, 12, 6, and 12 to their 4, 10, 6, 7.”
“This was a pretty rough game and we don’t respond well sometimes to that. The referees let things get a little physical. I thought we played okay under the circumstances and came away with a 17-point win.” he added.
The Columbians are 16-4 for the season, 9-3 in league play with four games remaining. The girls will face undefeated, number-one-ranked, Valley Catholic in the RHS gym on Friday, Feb. 1.
The RHS junior varsity (JV) girls defeated Warrenton 24-16. Alexi Hall scored 10 points. Jessica Gibson had eight points and 10 rebounds.
The JV girls also defeated De La Salle 37-22. Brandy Thurston had 12 points and Hall made seven points.
RHS JV are 12-2 for the season.
The Rainier High School boys top swimming relay teams fared well at a Jan. 24th meet held at the Tillamook YMCA, which also included teams from Tillamook and Scappoose.
Tillamook boys beat Rainier 85-83 while the Rainier boys beat Scappoose 115-44. Tillamook girls beat Rainier 109-37 and the Scappoose girls topped the Lady Columbians 108-46.
