CHS/RHS Track and Field Travels to Kalama Twilight

The Lady Tiger track and field team grabbed an eighth place team finish amond 15 teams at the Kalama Twilight Invitational meet on April 19, behind the strong performance of senior thrower Carley Lannan.

Lannan finished first in the shotput, second in the discus and eighth in the javelin to lead the Clatskanie girls.

Rainier boys team also finished in eighth place overall.

Tiger Baseball Wins One, Loses One

The Clatskanie High School (CHS) baseball team moves up to a 10th in state ranking after a win-one-lose-one start to a busy week, with a 10-0 victory over Corbett on Monday, April 22, and a 1-5 loss to Valley Catholic on Tuesday, April 23.

The Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning against Corbett. This was highlighted by a Nick Donaldson bases-clearing triple.

Donaldson finished the day 4-4 with a double, a triple and five runs-batted-in (RBIs).

Micah McLeod was 2-2 for the day with an RBI double.

Pitcher German George earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing only three hits and striking out five Corbett batters.

Against fourth-ranked Valley Catholic, the Tigers gave up four runs in the second inning and CHS fell 1-5.

Mica Karber allowed five runs on five hits and struck out eight batters.

At the plate, the Tigers managed just four hits.

The lone Tiger run came on a RBI single by Kyle Sharek in the seventh inning.

An Oregon coaches’ poll places CHS as a runner-up to the top ten, behind Harrisburg.

The Oregon School’s Activity Association’s (OSAA) computerized ranking system placed the Tigers in 10th place, as of Tuesday night with a 9-6 record so far this season.

The Tigers will play a makeup game against Horizon Christian at home on Wednesday, April 24, at 4:30 and host a doubleheader against Catlin Gabel on Friday, April 26, at 3:30 p.m.

Two Victories for Columbians

Racking up two more wins, the Rainier High School (RHS) Columbians’ baseball team shutout Catlin Gabel 13-0 on Friday, April 19, and beat Corbett 9-5 on Tuesday, April 23.

The Columbians are now ranked eighth in a 3A coaches’ poll and ranked ninth by the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) computerized ranking system.

While holding Catlin Gabel scoreless, the Columbians made three runs in the first inning, then pulled away in the second with seven more runs. They reached 13 in the third inning with three runs.

Carson Nicklous had three runs-batted-in (RBI) with two doubles and stole three bases.

Wes Tripp made two RBIs, with two doubles and stole four bases.

Ethan Langley, Charlie Vestal, Evan Gleaves, Nick Hanks and Adam Langley each had one RBI. Ethan Langley and Hanks had doubles. Gleaves stole four bases. Nicklous pitched the win, striking-out 10 batters.

On Tuesday, Corbett drew first blood with four runs in the opening inning. The Columbians answered with four of their own in the second. RHS added one in the fourth and four more in the fifth.

After five dry innings for Corbett they crossed home plate once in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too late.

Nicklous led Rainier with three RBIs, including one double. Oliver Bolden and Austin Robb-Farvour each made two RBIs. Bolden had a double and stole one base. Robb-Farvour stole two. Bolden pitched the win, striking-out six.

The Columbians travel to Warrenton for a doubleheader on Friday, April 26, and to Valley Catholic for another doubleheader on Tuesday, April 30.

Tiger Tracksters at Banks Invitational

Members of the Clatskanie boys and girls track and field team took part in the Banks Invitational track meet on Saturday, April 20.

The meet featured 16 schools from the 1A through 4A size classifications.

Flowers ‘N Fluff Wins BB Season

After a back-and-forth battle for first place in the Bowling Bags women’s bowling league, Flowers ‘N Fluff snatched the title for this season.

A 3-1 victory by Flowers ‘N Fluff over West Mart, which have been volleying for the top spot the last few weeks, booted West Mart into second.

Clatskanie Mini Mart finished third, bowling over Bling Gals 3-1 this week.

Colvin’s Pub and Grill cut down Johnson Logging 3-1, and Split Enz beat Salisbury 3-1.

Crystal Boothe of West Mart bowled the high game score this week of 212 and the high series of 515.
