Tigers Lead 33-0 in First Quarter, Win 54-22

The Clatskanie High School (CHS) Tigers annihilated the Corbett Cardinals 54-22 in their homecoming game Friday, Oct. 25, which was much more one-sided than the 54-22 final score tells.

The Tigers led 33-0 at the end of the first quarter and 47-0 at the half until Coach Tim Warren decided it was time to give the junior varsity some play time, allowing Corbett some room to score.

In the opening seconds of the game running back Cedet Bailey broke loose with a 50-yard touchdown run. David Adkinson kicked his first of five extra points for the game.

Micah McLeod ran a 43-yard touchdown.

Nick Donaldson threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Codi Blodgett.

When an ankle injury put Donaldson out for the rest of the game, German George took over as quarterback. George finished the quarter with two touchdown passes to Wyatt McKay, one 26 yards and the second 16 yards.

Bailey got the ball again and ran 66 yards for another touchdown.

George passed to Colten Puzey for a 24-yard touchdown.

The Tigers allowed Corbett eight points in the third. McLeod ran an 18-yard touchdown.

In the fourth, Corbett made two more touchdowns.

In total, the Tigers rushed 316 yards and passed for 104 more.

Bailey gain 178 yards on seven carries for two touchdowns. McLeod carried four times for 73 yards and two touchdowns.

George passed 4-6 for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Donaldson was 1-3 for one 15-yard touchdown.

McLeod made two interceptions. Seth Makinson made one. Adkinson had two fumble recoveries.

Coach Warren said, “The boys played well, we executed both offensive and defensive game plans.”

The Tigers host Valley Catholic Friday, Nov. 1, for senior night. Valley and Clatskanie are both 6-2 for the season, 2-1 in league. The game will set seeding for the playoffs.

Soccer Girls Comeback to Tie Catlin Gabel 2-2

Although they were down 0-2 at the half, the Rainier/Clatskanie girls soccer team tied Catlin Gabel 2-2 Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Abby Rosian and Laken Garman each scored goals. “Maisy Horness was selected as player of the game for her outstanding and consistent play,” said Coach Erin Fox.

 Tiger Runners Set Personal Records

The Clatskanie cross country runners hit their season peak times at the District 1 Championships Thursday, Oct. 24, with all runners setting course or personal records (PR).

“As their coach, it’s always my goal to have everyone be at peak performance levels when it’s time for districts. Our hard work and training paid off.

All of the varsity girls set both course and season PRs in the 5000 meter run, according to Coach Amber-Dawn Ingwerson. Lynn Siltala ran a lifetime PR time of 21:51, a 43-second improvement over her season PR. Coach Ingwerson said “This meet was especially meaningful for senior Lynn Siltala. She is the only four year senior on the team.” Siltala placed ninth, narrowly missing her chance at going to state. Alyssa Moore, 26:04, and Brooke Hamilton, 26:22 also ran lifetime PRs.

The varsity boys achieved either a season or course PR in the 5000 meter. Freshman Isaac Points ran a season PR of 19:52. Chase Berg ran a season PR of 20:38. Austin Deanhardt ran a lifetime PR of 20:40, over a minute faster than his PR from last year. Alex Gaylin ran a lifetime PR of 22:32. Griffin Haas ran a course PR time of 23:30 close behind him was Trask Hill who ran a lifetime PR of 23:36. Thomas Shelby, ran a season PR of 23:45.

Junior varsity runners were: Drexler Martin, 22:08, a season PR; Henry Hunt, 24:27, a lifetime PR; Cole Warren 24:57; Tommy Miller, 25:26 a lifetime PR; Lukas Roubal, 26:11, PR.

District championship race was hosted by Valley Catholic and Catlin Gabel. The course is a 5000-meter loop around Tualatin Hills Park and Recreational Center in Beaverton. There are areas of pavement circling the soccer fields and trails through trees with a few gentle hills. “This is probably the flattest course that our team runs,” noted Coach Ingwerson. “We are used to training and running on courses with steep sloping hills and rough terrain,” she added.
