CHS Forestry Team Takes Third in Philomath

Taking third place as a team, with several individual and pair first place titles, the Clatskanie High School (CHS) forestry team traveled to Philomath Saturday, March 15, with 38 teammates and Coach Jeff Skirvin.

The Jill and Jill crosscut team of Katie Burgher and Lynn Siltala beat out reigning state champions Stacy Atto and Meisha Boettcher of Knappa for first place.

Burgher and Caleb Warren took third in the Jack and Jill crosscut, and Siltala and Ryan Froke took fourth place.

Burgher and Warren won second in the Jack and Jill cable splice.

Burgher also won first place in the prepared speech, second in the interview.

Jessie Gillespie won first place in tree identification and second in the novice log roll.

Siltala won third in the job interview, fourth in open climbing and fifth in women’s choker set.

Froke and Tony Simmons won thirds in the boys’ cable splice.

Chris Puckett and Sawyer Weldon placed third in boys’ crosscut.

Individual placers were: Weldon, 5th, tree identification; Dylan Knutson, 3rd, novice climbing; Ellie Colquhoun, 3rd, tree identification; Danten Sewald, 5th, tool identification, 5th, map reading; Hunter Krause, 4th, prepared speech; Joseph Williams, 4th, log roll; Trey Bodenhamer,  4th, novice log roll, 5th, axe throw; Kole Norgren, 5th, novice climbing; Danny Goldwater, 4th, map reading, and Arlee Nosack, 5th, axe throw.

On March 8th, the Tigers also placed third in the team competition at Sweet Home.

Tiger Beat Loggers 9-6

Winning 9-6, the Clatskanie High School (CHS) baseball team hosted Knappa for the Tigers’ first game of the 2014 season

CHS had a 9-1 lead going into the seventh. Knappa rallied with five runs, but fell short.

German George got the win, pitching two innings allowing one run and striking three Loggers out.

Mica Karber led the way at the plate, going 2/3 with a double and a run batted in (RBI).  Damien Strowger had two hits and two RBIs.

Griffin Haas hit a two-run single.

The Tigers travel to Portland Christian on Thursday, March 27.
